“Live to Benefit Humanity” was the theme of the Triennial Conference of the Indo-Pacific Federation of the Theosophical Society held in Manila, 2-5 November 2007. Over 150 participants attended the gathering, coming from India, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brazil, Australia and the Philippines. The conference was opened with the Prayers of the Religions, which was followed by one minute of silence in memory of Dara Mirza, a former Vice-President of the Federation, who passed away tragically last September.
Greetings were read from a number of Sections, Lodges and individuals around the world. At the Federation Council meeting John Vorstermans, currently National President of the TS in New Zealand, was elected President for the period 2007-2010. S. Sundaram, General Secretary of the Indian Section, was elected Vice-President.

Short talks included ‘The Role of Theosophy in Social Transformation’ by S. Sundaram, and ‘Popularizing a Knowledge of Theosophy’ by Chong Sanne, President of the Singapore Lodge. There was a symposium on ‘Live to Benefit Humanity’ with the participation of Manju Sundaram, from the Indian Section, T. Siva, President of Selangor Lodge, Malaysia, and Linda Oliveira, National President of the Australian Section. Lily Chong, Secretary of Singapore Lodge, contributed a talk on ‘Spiritual Healing: Some Theosophical Perspectives’. Diana Dunningham-Chapotin, International Secretary of the Theosophical Order of Service, gave an overview of the many initiatives of the TOS in a number of countries.
The Guest of Honour was Hon. Reynato S. Puno, Chief Justice of the Republic of the Philippines, who delivered a lecture. The conference concluded with two presentations: ‘The Role of Theosophical Federations in TS Work’ by Terezinha Kind, President, Inter-American Theosophical Federation, and ‘Theosophy as a Living Wisdom’ by John Vorstermans. An outing organized by the TS in the Philippines saw the delegates visiting historical sites in Manila and later the Golden Link School which was established in 2002 under the chairmanship of Vicente Hao Chin, Jr, National President of the TS in the Philippines. A joyous atmosphere of brotherhood and camaraderie prevailed throughout the conference.
