History

Helen ZaharaThe idea of forming an Indo-Pacific Federation of The Theosophical Society came to the late Helen V. Zahara, former General Secretary of the TS in Australia, during her travels in the region.

She could see the hard conditions in which the Sections of the TS within it had to work. Very few theosophical books existed in the regional languages.

The late S. Narayanan, from Malaysia, and Elaine Murdoch, from Australia, were instrumental in bringing the idea to the realm of facts.

The Inaugural Meeting of the Federation took place on 19 and 20 August 1978, in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, with John Coats, then International President, in attendance.
