LONG-STANDING TS MEMBERS HONOURED
The National Council of the TS in Australia, at its meeting
in January 2006, decided to award a Certificate of Commendation
for an “excellent record of theosophical service over
many years” to Pat Bailey, Jessie Sharples
and Erica Patient. The citation mentions that their
work “has helped to keep alive the light of theosophical ideals
and teachings in this country.”

Pat Bailey became involved with Brisbane
Lodge about 50 years ago. She held many positions at various
times including President. She was also very active in The Theosophical
Order of Service (TOS) and did a great deal of work in the running
of the old ladies home, Hanworth (also known as the Hospice)
at East Brisbane, which was the responsibility of the Brisbane
TOS.

Jessie Sharples became involved in TS
activities approximately 40 years ago through her close friendship
with Edna Jenks, one of the stalwarts of the Australian Section
who passed away in 2002. She became the resident Matron at Hanworth
and was actively involved in both TS and TOS work. Jessie also
helped Edna a great deal in the establishment of the Theosophical
Education and Retreat Centre at Springbrook, Queensland.
