The Mornington Peninsula TS Group does not have a separate, formalised Theosophical Order of Service group as members are geographically quite scattered. Service is seen as theosophy in action – related to the First Object of Brotherhood and Sisterhood and living theosophically.
Matters relating to the TOS are discussed in the TOS Report at committee meetings. Dorothy Bell is the nominated TOS and Education Officer for TOS liaison and keeping the Committee and group informed about TOS matters – at local, national and international levels.
The Group meets first Sunday of the month at
Mt Eliza Neighbourhood Centre, Mt Eliza. Victoria
Program:
11am Meditation, 12 noon Lunch,
1-3.30 lecture/workshop including cuppa and catch-up.
Individual Committee Members and other members of the Monthly Sunday Meeting group are involved in a range of service activities in their communities. The Committee Group sees service as making theosophy practical in their communities – thus reflecting the service model of “community outreach”. In this model, members serve in their local communities within the capacity of the demands of life and involve themselves in activities that reflect their individual perceptions of theosophical service, their skills and the needs of those around them.
Recent and present service activities include running regular groups in the following areas: meditation and personal development; healing and personal development; earth healing and energy work; spiritual discussion group for younger people; “Daily Coping”- a local self-help support group for those in need.
November 2006 - at a Committee Workshop - members explored the meaning of inner and outer work in theosophical service, and how the self-transformational element of theosophical service differed from service in other humanitarian organisations. Extracts from the writings and talks of Annie Besant were studied.
In March 2007, a follow-up interactive lecture was the focus of the Group’s Monthly Sunday Meeting on the meaning of Theosophical Service and how it interrelated with personal transformation.
September 2 - Sunday lecture on the topical issues and relevant themes that arise out of the July ’07 American Annual Convention titled “The Foundations of Theosophy – Service, Sacrifice and Sangha” and the Second International TOS Conference at TS Headquarters- Olcott, Wheaton. [Chicago.]
