Michael Gomes, Director of the Emily Sellon Memorial Library in New York, has spent the past forty years researching the modern Theosophical movement. Among his impresssive achievements is the publication by Penguin/Tarcher of his annotated and abridged edition of The Secret Doctrine, and his chapter on Blavatsky and Theosophy in the forthcoming Cambridge Handbook of Western Mysticism and Esotericism.

Michael Gomes will be speaking at a number of TS centres and Lodges around Australia, and at The University of Sydney.

These sessions replaced the planned theme 'Human Transformation and the Enquiring Mind' owing to the need of the presenter Professor P. Krishna to return to India due to ill health.

Theme: Living in Harmony with Nature

Presenters: David Lorimer, Barry Bowden and Dara Tatray

Location: ‘Bolitho House’, Canyonleigh Centre, Tugalong Road, Canyonleigh

The reality of our interconnectedness and interdependence is now recognised in science, psychology, ecology and economics. At this retreat we will explore with David Lorimer ways of reconnecting with nature, enhancing our health and well-being in the process.

David Lorimer was educated at Eton and Cambridge. His eclectic career has taken him from merchant banking to the teaching of philosophy. Among other things, he is currently program director of the Scientific and Medical Network (SMN), Vice-President of the Swedenborg Society and Chair of the All Hallows House Foundation, concerned with holistic health.

Barry Bowden has been farming all his life and has a strong connection with nature. For the past twenty-two years he has run a 700 acre biodynamic farm on the Darling Downs, based on the Anthroposophy of Rudolf Steiner. His soil is good enough to eat.

Dara Tatray holds a PhD from the University of New South Wales, for her thesis Rebuilding the Foundations of Deep Ecology, A Nondualist Approach.

Light on the Path

Sessions: will be led mainly by Dara Tatray and Edi Bilimoria.

Attendance: TS Members only

Dates: Friday 5 to Sunday 7 November

Times: Arrivals Friday evening for those who can make it (bringing food to share for that one evening meal). Sessions begin after breakfast on Saturday and close on Sunday afternoon

Cost: $85 plus $10 registration includes two nights’ accommodation and all meals Saturday and Sunday

Location: ‘Bolitho House’, Canyonleigh Centre, Tugalong Road, Canyonleigh

Light on the Path is a highly elevated yet practical guide to Enlightenment, discipleship and greater inner freedom. The advice was written for disciples but pertains to all those who are ready and willing to learn. This weekend will be an opportunity to delve deeply into the text in an environment of friendship and enquiry

Cost: $10 Registration Fee  Plus $85.  This includes all meals.

Location: ‘Bolitho House’, Canyonleigh Centre, Tugalong Road, Canyonleigh

This two-day live-in event will explore some of the key ideas of esoteric philosophy, including the doctrine of correspondences and the fundamental unity of all life, with a view to understanding them in their original context and finding new ways of expresssing these truths in the language of today. There will be the opportunity for maximum participation in largely interactive sessions in the unique surrounds of this bush-land retreat.

This day-event will explore evidence from religion, philosophy and art to suggest that Consciousness contains sacred depths. Does Consciousness itself possess some of the qualities normally attributed to God, such as omnipresence, omnipotence and omniscience?

2009 May Event — Bhagavad-Gita Weekend

‘Tools for Survival and Flourishing
The Metaphysics, Psychology and Ethics of the Bhagavad-Gita

The aim this weekend is to present some of the key teachings of the Gita focusing especially on its background metaphysics; and to try to arrive at our own understanding of these teachings, not necessarily based on anyone else’s interpretation. Sessions will cover an introduction to the Gita and our approach to it; the dharma teaching; the ideal of human perfection in the Gita; the relative merits of desire and desirelessness; and Deep Ecology, which movement drew a great deal of inspiration from the Gita.

Dara Tatray is the National President of the Theosophical Society in Australia. She has a PhD in the History and Philosophy of Science from the University of New South Wales for her thesis titled: ‘Rebuilding the Foundations of Deep Ecology: A Nondualilst Approach’. Her main research interests have been Advaita Vedanta, Yoga psychology and the history of science particularly as it intersects with theosophical concerns.
